Welcome to the 2010 Nassau Bay Nauticat Swim Team summer season. This year we begin our season with the sadness of the passing of Jill Cooke. As you know, Jill was a long time Nauticat swimmer and head coach of the team. She was beloved and will be greatly missed. Please keep her family in your prayers. As a memorial tribute to Jill, the Board has voted to name our annual scholarship awards after her.
For your general awareness there have been a number of other developments I would like to mention: The swimming pool has been completely reconditioned since the effects of Hurricane Ike and last year's April rains. The Board continues its attempts to arrange additional improvements to the pool and its appurtenances through the Homes Association such as a sixth swimming lane and upgrading of the electrical and plumbing facilities within the out-buildings. Any input from you as Homes Association members to the Homes Association
Board can only help to spur these goals forward.
The Board has continued to cap registration of the number of swimmers onto the team. This year it is capped at 170 swimmers. The reason for this is the division we swim in. At the moment, we compete against teams that greatly outnumber the Nauticats. Our results over the past several years when compared to our previous long term success are evident. The particular division we are assigned by the Clear Creek Swim League each year is predicated on the number of swimmers each team registers. The larger the team the higher the assigned division. In making that determination, the Clear Creek Swim League averages each team's last three year's number of registrants. By incrementally capping the number of registrants each year, we hope to move down into the next division where a team of our average size can better compete.
Lastly, I'm pleased to announce that this season the Board has approved the purchase of a snow cone machine. Its addition will no doubt excite the children at every meet, as well as increase the concession sales which are so vital to our annual budget needs.
